Federico Brilli

Federico Brilli is a plant eco-physiologist. His research focuses on the mechanisms of plant (primary and secondary) metabolism involved in plant resistance and acclimation to biotic and abiotic stresses. Following his participation to European Marie Curie projects, he has gained an interdisciplinary knowledge and understanding on the molecular, biochemical and physiological processes regulating the biosynthesis and production of volatile organic compounds (VOC) involved in host-plant and plant-plant communication. In particular, he actively developed and applied, both in laboratory and in the field, new ultra-sensitive analytical techniques such as PTR-MS (Proton Transfer Reaction Mass Spectrometry) and PTR-TOF-MS (Proton Transfer Reaction Time-Of-Flight Mass Spectrometry) for real-time and high-resolved monitoring of VOC fluxes, also coupled with traditional methodologies of VOC sampling for gas chromatography – mass spectrometry (GC-MS) analysis.
