Currently my research interest is to understand the molecular mechanisms that plants have evolved to cope with abiotic stresses. Land plants are frequently challenged by the changing physical environment, which often generates various biotic and abiotic stresses. I am particularly interested in the physiological and molecular characterization of plant responses to drought, heat and photo-oxidative stress. We are using genomics, biochemical, computational and physiological approaches to elucidate the mechanisms involved in abiotic stress tolerance in Mediterranean plants.
Another field of interest relates to the evolution of genetic diversity and differentiation between natural populations by using molecular markers.
