Associate, Turin HeadquarterASSOCIATE publications: Orcid personal details and research activity: People Curriculum Vitae The spittlebug Philaenus spumarius L. (Hemiptera : Aphrophoridae) is the main vector of Xylella fastidiosa in Europe and, in particular, in the Apulia Region to olive trees. The efficiency of the vector in transmitting Xf is relatively low, but its abundance and the massive movement of the adult stage between the canopies of trees, and olive trees in particular, have made this insect capable of spreading the bacterium very quickly. Previous surveys have shown the prevalence of infected insects…

Research Fellow, Turin HeadquarterRESEARCH FELLOW giorgiasportelli(AT)cnr.it publications: Orcid personal details and research activity: People Curriculum Vitae In the realm of plant pathology, I conducted research focused on the molecular defense responses of tomato (Solanum lycopersicum L.) to infection with Tomato spotted wilt orthotospovirus (TSWV). I delved into the pathways regulating the reduction of cellular ROS concentrations, exploring, for the first time, six selected GRX genes in tomatoes. The results of this project, conducted in collaboration with CNR-IBBR in Portici, have been published as a scientific article. Subsequently, I participated in the E-Crops project…

For the writing of my master’s thesis, I studied the application of RNAi for the control of Scaphoideus titanus, a vector of Grapevine flavescence dorée phytoplasma. This project involved insect breeding, the selection of potential target genes to be silenced, the synthesis and microinjection of dsRNA molecules. Finally, gene silencing was verified by RT-qPCR. I gained additional laboratory experience through curricular internships: the first as…
