He contributed to the genome studies of X. fastidiosa isolates identified in Europe, to the analysis of the olive response and to the description of the microbiome of plants infected by this bacterium. He is currently investigating the Xylella resistance traits in olive and the adoption of biopesticides for the control of the bacterium and its insect vector. He is a member of the Scientific Committee of the International Council of Virus and Virus-like Diseases of the Grapevine and of the ICTV Beta-, Gamma-, Deltaflexiviridae Study Group.
