Curriculum Vitae

Graduated in Agricultural Science in 1985, with major in Plant Pathology, I am a researcher specialized in serological and molecular diagnosis of RNA and DNA viruses and viroids, which affect mediterranean woody fruit crops (grapevine, olive, stone fruits and fig). Among main expertise, I list extraction and manipulation of plant RNA and DNA and cloning and sequencing of DNA for viral sequence analysis by basic bioinformatic tools. I did research and application about the expression of recombinant virus proteins for animal immunization or antigens production in E. coli. Recently, I am going to develop the application of high throughput sequencing, also with nanopore technology, to identify and characterize viruses and viroid genome, known or de novo discovered, in woody and ornamentals crops symptomless of with unknown etiology. Subsequent to the identification is the confirmative and quantitative analysis of molecular targets by real time PCR, digital droplet PCR and LAMP assays.
I am member of the International Committee on Taxonomy of Virus – Study group on Closteroviridae, and of the International Council for the study of Virus and Virus-like Diseases of the Grapevine (ICVG). Finally, I am fellow of the SocietĂ  Italiana di Patologia Vegetale (SIPAV, Italian Society of Plant Pathology).
