LODICAM: Development of sustainable management and timely in-field diagnostics against hazelnut powdery mildew, recently introduced in Piedmont
With the LODICAM project, we intend to develop a diagnostic system for Erysiphe corylacearum, the causal agent of the new hazelnut powdery mildew disease in Piedmont. Both a rapid and economical molecular diagnosis based on the LAMP technique and a diagnosis based on the Raman spectroscopic technique will be used directly in the field. The development of LAMP and Raman spectroscopy techniques for the rapid detection of E. corylacearum will allow us to accelerate the time necessary for diagnosis by assessing the level of infectious risk in the orchards at an early stage. Thanks to monitoring the spread of the pathogen, it will be possible to identify new infectious outbreaks in Piedmont, giving important support to the creation of sustainable management systems against the new powdery mildew disease on hazelnut.
