Vertical Farming: Development of a prototype to produce high value horticultural crops enriched by bioactive molecules (VertiGrow)

VertiGROW is aimed i) to apply high-efficiency light-emitting diodes (LEDs) to drive production of secondary metabolites (SM) in plants by manipulating light spectral composition and ii) to produce a laboratory prototype of LED powered by beyond-silicon innovative photon-to-electron conversion devices to stimulate crop growth and drive SM production. The activities will be developed thanks to the participation of researchers working in the CNR Institutes IPSP, IMM, Nanotec and ICCOM. Growth of plants in response different frequency of radiation emitted and non-targeted metabolomics analysis will be performed thanks to the participation of the group of Prof. Jörg-Peter Schnitzler and Dr. Andrea Ghirardo from the Helmholtz Zentrum München Deutsches Forschungszentrum fuer Gesundheit und Umwelt GMBH (HMGU), (https://www.helmholtz-muenchen.de/eus/index.html).
