Curriculum Vitae

Reinaldo Rodrigues de Souza Neto achieved Bachelor’s in Biotechnology in Federal University of São Carlos (2010 – 2013) and Master in Genetics and Molecular Biology in State University of Campinas (2014 – 2016). Then he achieved PhD in Genetics and Molecular Biology – State University of Campinas (2016 –nov/2022) and during the PhD course he was a PhD Visiting Student in the University of Florida, FL, USA (2019 – 2020).
He has twelve years of experience in molecular biology, plant biotechnology, and plant-pathogen interactions. During the years, Reinaldo have been worked with different projects which some of them were with model plants such as Arabidopsis thaliana and Nicotiana tabacum, and with sweet orange transgenic plants. The goals were to obtain tolerant transgenic plants to Xylella fastidiosa (X. fastidiosa) and Xanthomonas citri subsp. citri (X. citri) as well as provide new insights in plant-pathogen interactions. Recently, in his PhD project, a candidate S gene was identified to be regulated by the key effector associated with symptoms caused by X. citri. Sweet orange edited plants using CRISPR/Cas9 technology were obtained which were tolerant to X. citri. He developed part of this study in Dr. Nian Wang’s lab, in University of Florida, USA. He also collaborates with other projects in plant biotechnology, plant functional genomics, and plant-pathogen interactions. One of them was the overexpression of EFR, a PRR gene, in sweet orange which promoted tolerance to X. fastidiosa and X. citri.
