Biotic and abiotic stresses

AG.P01.024 – Biotic and abiotic stress, plant defense and adaptation mechanisms

This line of research is aimed at the identification and characterization of the causative agents of biotic and abiotic stresses in plants; the study of the changes in cellular, biochemical and molecular machinery that occur in plants adopting resistance, defence and adaptation strategies; genotyping, phenotyping and selection of plant cultivars and species showing tolerance/resistance and adaptation mechanisms to stress; the consequent development of innovative strategies for sustainable plant protection, with special attention to climate changes, in particular global warming, aridity and the associated modifications in the structure of ecosystems (invasions of alien species and species extinctions).
