Elimination of chemical treatments producing toxic residue during grape cultivation and wine making
The aim of the project is to reduce the use of chemical compounds used in viticulture to protect plants from the diseases and in enology to prevent microbial contaminations of wine. The IPSP is involved in the field experimental trials where ozonated and electrolyzed water will be used instead of chemical compounds. Ozonated and electrolyzed water have low environmental impact since they do not produce dangerous residues. They can be produced on site, using an ozone generator and a reactor developed by Industrie De Nora S.p.A. The trials compare the effect of traditional chemical treatments with a protocol integrated with ozonated or electrolyzed water, on the epiphytic microflora of grape leaves and berries. The use of these products will be beneficial for humans, environment and for the farmers that can reduce the costs related to grape disease control.
