In Turin Headquarter there are four important repositories, which represent the result of decades of activity in the field of plant virology.
Virus collection: it is one of the largest in Europe and is made up of more than 120 species of plant viruses from the five continents, collected from the 60s to the present day. Nearly 1000 isolates, strains or accessions are present in the form of lyophilized leaves and stored at -20°C or at – 80°C or as infectious clones. For further information, please contact Marina Ciuffo, firstname.lastname@example.org
Grape collection: located in Grinzane Cavour (CN), it covers a total area of 1.2 hectares and has nearly 700 accessions. In this vineyard there are all the minor local varieties of the North-West of Italy, as well as regional, national and international reference varieties. For further information, click here and/or please contact Anna Schneider, email@example.com
Collection of antisera: several polyclonal antisera were produced, from the 60s to the present day, for the diagnosis and characterization of different viral species. For further information, please contact Marina Ciuffo, firstname.lastname@example.org
Collection of reference phytoplasma isolates maintained in vivo (Catharanthus roseus), belonging to different taxonomic groups. This collection is particularly enriched in local phytoplasma isolates belonging to groups 16SrI, 16SrXII and 16SrV. For further information, please contact Cristina Marzachì, email@example.com
Collection of grapevine selected clones. The IPSP-Turin Headquarter selected more than 100 virus-free clones of 30 different grape cultivars which are registered by the Ministry of Agriculture. The primary source of the clones is preserved in pots (3 plants for each clone) and protected inside a screen-house at the Vivalb nursery near Alba (CN). The primary source of selected clones is the first steps of the grapevine certification scheme. For further information, please contact Franco Mannini, firstname.lastname@example.org
In addition, the institute holds a collection of higher plants, which includes at least 141 plant species and 270 varieties/cultivars stored as seeds at + 4 °C.
