Curriculum Vitae

My research focuses on a broad range of topics, from systematics, taxonomy and evolutionary biology of insects (mostly parasitic wasps) and bacterial symbionts to biological control and vector biology. I have published systematic, taxonomic and karyological revisions of important groups of parasitoid wasps often used as biocontrol agents, on disentangling the roles of symbionts in manipulating the reproduction of their insect hosts, reproductive isolation between closely related species, on the phylogeography of parasitoids associated to invasive species, on the coevolution between parasitoids and predators and their hosts. I also studied several aspects of insect-plant-pathogen interactions, focusing in particular on viruses transmitted by whiteflies and phloem-limited bacteria of the genus Candidatus Liberibacter transmitted by psyllids. More recently, I have been working on the use of black soldier fly larvae to upcycle agricultural and food waste to obtain frass, which holds great potential not only as organic fertilizer, but also as biostimulant of plant growth and health.
