Curriculum Vitae

I got a bachelor and master’s degree in Forestry Science at University of Molise discussing the experimental thesis in Forest Plant Pathology entitled: “Efficacy of products of natural origin and biocontrol agents against Fusarium solani, causal agent of the polygala (Polygala myrtifolia) decline in nursery”. I got the PhD in Agriculture Technologies and Biotechnologies curriculum Sustainable Plant Production and Protection at University of Molise working on: “Selection, evaluation, and characterization of bioactive compounds for their activity against Xylella fastidiosa and other phytopathogenic bacteria”. During my research activities I acquired knowledge and skills and developed advanced techniques to manipulate microorganisms (fungi, bacteria, and yeasts). I gained significant experience in the selection of useful microorganisms and products of natural origin, evaluating their effectiveness (antagonistic/antimicrobial/inhibitory activity against pathogens; and biostimulating activity towards plants) in vitro and in vivo (open field and under controlled conditions), and studying their respective mechanisms of action. I tested different Plant Growth Promoting Rhizobacteria (PGPR) and mycorrhizal fungi studying their beneficial effects and limitation of use on plants. I acquired skills in testing, selecting, and identifying methods, tools and products for biological, conventional and integrated control of plant diseases, also using commercially available natural and microbiological products. I also evaluated the effects of conventional nutritional products (fertilizers) and special products for nutrition, either defining their dosage or mode of application. Currently, my research activity is focused on studies evaluating the efficacy of bioformulates for the control of Xylella fastidiosa in olive trees, in the BIOVEXO Project – Biocontrol of Xylella and its Vector in Olive Trees for Integrated Pest Management.
