Plant Virus Italy (PlaVIt): the collection of plant viruses in Italy

Microorganisms are ubiquitous in the environment and represent the major form of life on Earth. They play fundamental roles in ecosystems, contributing to their functioning, and cover the surface of other organisms, interacting with their physiology. Viruses, besides our common negative vision of their role as pathogens, are now recognized as essential in order to maintain an ecological balance within our ecosystems. Therefore, viruses are key to environmental and human health, to science as well as to bioeconomy and biotechnology applications. Hence the need to develop and improve collections and…

SUS-MIRRI.IT – Strengthening the MIRRI Italian Research Infrastructure for Sustainable Bioscience and Bioeconomy

SUS-MIRRI.IT aims at strengthening the research infrastructure MIRRI.IT, the Italian network of microbial culture collections, through the increase of the bioresources stored in the various collections, enhancing their characterization and optimizing their management, thus unlocking their genomic, metabolic and economic potential. The project is coordinated by the University of Turin and involves 15 Institutions with 24 Operating Units, which host collections of different microbial resources, including bacteria, filamentous fungi, yeasts, microalgae and virus, which can be exploited in the health, agro-food and environmental areas. Microbiological laboratories of the MIRRI.IT network…
